Inspiration & Design
I don’t know about you, but I have seen so many beautiful indie dyed yarn advent calendars on Instagram these past few years and it is always a HUGE temptation to buy one. In the past I have ummed and ahhed too long about buying one and the opportunity has passed me by. But I finally treated myself to one when my favourite indie dyer released her 2021 advent.
After purchasing my advent I scrolled Instagram, read lots of blog post advent pattern roundups, watched YouTube videos of “the best advent patterns” and searched and searched on Ravelry for the perfect pattern. And while I found a lot of lovely knitting patterns, I just didn’t find something I was desperate to crochet.
So I think you can probably see where this is going!… Yes, I decided to design something myself and so the Quiet Magic Advent Wrap was started!
This has definitely been one of my favourite makes to date – the excitement of opening the little wrapped parcel each day, seeing what colour it is and watching how it fitted into my wrap. And I could not love the end result more!
Moss Stitch
Firstly, this advent wrap is crocheted using the moss stitch.
This is such a pretty stitch – it crochets up quickly, gives a lovely drape and has a great modern look.
On The Bias
Secondly, this pattern is crocheted on the bias or corner-to-corner. This works along with the crochet stitch to add to the drape of the wrap and also creates the gorgeous diagonal stripes!
Advent / Mini Skein / Scrappy Project
Thirdly, although this was made using a yarn advent calendar it is also a really great pattern for using up mini skeins or odds and ends of yarn in your stash. Use colours that fade into each other, use ones that contrast, make the stripes thick or thin – just follow the basic pattern and change colours whenever you want!
Intermediate / Confident Beginner
Finally, this is a great project to stretch your crochet skills. Like the Quiet Ripple Lapghan or Mountain Hideaway Throw, this pattern takes a little bit of crochet thought but once you are started it is easy follow!
The Yarn
I used a DK weight yarn advent from the lovely indie dyer Adventures in Yarncraft.
The yarn is 85% superwash, extrafine merino with 15% nylon in a double knitting/light worsted weight. Each mini skein is approximately 45m/20g. So the advent total was: 24 x 20g = 480g = 1080m yarn.
The pattern includes some substitute yarn recommendations or you could use yarnsub.com to help you find an alternative.

Pattern – Crochet Advent Wrap
Oh the excitement of opening a yarn advent calendar! But what to make with all that beautiful yarn?
Crochet this rectangular wrap to keep warm on cooler days or to cosy up around the home. Easy to throw on around your shoulders or it can double up as a warm scarf.
Perfect for intermediate crocheters looking for an interesting project or very confident beginners.
Learn how to crochet the moss stitch corner to corner for diagonal stripes and a beautiful “on the bias” drape.
For the ombre effect in the pattern photos an advent dyed in a fade is best. However, any colour combination would be fun! And this is an excellent pattern for using up odds and ends of scrap yarn.
