Inspiration & Design
I had a lovely set of wooden coasters that were gifted to me but one by one my naughty, little dog managed to chew them to bits! I only have one of these coasters left and it’s safely under one of my plants up high on a shelf.
So, I eventually went shopping for replacements and found some beautiful marble, hexagon shaped coasters in one of my favourite home stores. I think you can probably see where this is heading!
Yes, instead of simply buying new coasters (where is the fun in that?!) I was inspired to crochet my own version instead. And here we are with these simple modern crochet coasters.
Easy Crochet
Firstly, like the Sage & Blush Wall Hanging, this is another crochet home decor pattern that uses simple crochet stitches. As a result, this makes it a great beginner crochet project. I’ve even included a little cheat sheet photo tutorial to help with the stitch placement instructions. Just in case you aren’t familiar with some of the terms used when crocheting in the round.
Quick Crochet
Secondly, this is a super fast crochet project to complete. Four rounds of crochet and you’re done!
Gifts
Finally, I think these coasters would make great gifts. Paired with a fancy mug or even with the rest of the Collection. Great for new home presents especially!
The Yarn
I used the popular Lily Sugar’n Cream yarn for this project. Perfect for a simple modern crochet coaster.
This 100% cotton yarn is natural, soft and absorbent. It’s a worsted / aran weight and comes in a wide range of shades. I’ve picked some of my favourites below.
Above all it’s long-lasting, washable and absorbant. So it really is perfect for lots of different cotton crochet projects.
I chose Soft Ecru for this collection which is on the very top left.
The pattern includes some substitute yarn recommendations or you could use yarnsub.com to help you find an alternative.
