Inspiration & Design
After finishing the cotton hexagon coasters and matching table mats, I just had to keep going and add a placemat to complete the table set.
Once I had all three finished I was so happy with how they looked together. This is exactly my taste in home decor: simple and modern but with a little hint of a vintage vibe.
Easy Crochet
Firstly, like the Earth & Air Cushions, this is another crochet home decor pattern that uses simple crochet stitches. As a result, this makes it a great beginner crochet project. I’ve even included a little cheat sheet photo tutorial to help with the stitch placement instructions. Just in case you aren’t familiar with some of the terms used when crocheting in the round.
Mindless Crochet
Secondly, this is a great mindless, relaxing crochet project. The rounds and stitches become nice and repetitive as you crochet, which makes it perfect for taking out and about or to complete while watching Netflix!
Gifts
Finally, I think these placemats would make great gifts, especially if given along with some or all of the rest of the collection. Great for new home presents!
The Yarn
I used the popular Lily Sugar’n Cream yarn for this project. Perfect for a pair of simple modern crochet placemats.
This 100% cotton yarn is natural, soft and absorbent. It’s a worsted / aran weight and comes in a wide range of shades. I’ve picked some of my favourites below.
Above all it’s long-lasting, washable and absorbant. So it really is perfect for lots of different cotton crochet projects.
I chose Soft Ecru for this collection which is on the very top left.
The pattern includes some substitute yarn recommendations or you could use yarnsub.com to help you find an alternative.
