Inspiration & Design
After finishing the cotton hexagon coasters I decided to make a slightly bigger version so I had somewhere to put my teapot! Something bigger than a coaster but not as large as a place mat.
And once I got this idea in my mind I could think of so many uses for a mat this size: jugs of water, cafetieres, serving bowls, even as a pretty display under plant pots!
Easy Crochet
Firstly, like the Earth & Air Cushions, this is another crochet home decor pattern that uses simple crochet stitches. As a result, this makes it a great beginner crochet project. I’ve even included a little cheat sheet photo tutorial to help with the stitch placement instructions. Just in case you aren’t familiar with some of the terms used when crocheting in the round.
Quick Crochet
Secondly, this is a super fast crochet project to complete. Six rounds of crochet and you’re done!
Gifts
Finally, I think these table mats would make great gifts. Paired with a fancy teapot, a plant or even with the rest of the Collection. Great for new home presents especially!
The Yarn
I used the popular Lily Sugar’n Cream yarn for this project. Perfect for a pair of simple modern crochet table mats.
This 100% cotton yarn is natural, soft and absorbent. It’s a worsted / aran weight and comes in a wide range of shades. I’ve picked some of my favourites below.
Above all it’s long-lasting, washable and absorbant. So it really is perfect for lots of different cotton crochet projects.
I chose Soft Ecru for this collection which is on the very top left.
The pattern includes some substitute yarn recommendations or you could use yarnsub.com to help you find an alternative.
